TREES ON YOUR PROPERTY

County ordinance states that there should be a minimum 6-foot clearance for tree limbs above public walkways.

Proper trimming of overhanging limbs which obstruct walkway clearance is the responsibility of individual homeowner.

Fairfax County is authorized to trim trees if found in violation of this guideline and they will bill homeowners for the trimming. Violations are to be reported to VDOT or county authorities.

If a tree is on your Prosperity House property, you can cut it down without permission from Fairfax County or the HOA Board.

Some info to consider if a tree falls on your property.

RESOURCE  PROTECTED AREAS IN PROSPERITY HEIGHTS

To see if a tree near you is in a Resource Protected Area, call the Fairfax County Urban Forest Management 703-324-1770

They will look up to see if the tree is in a Conservation Resource Easement or Resource Protected Area

If so, a permit must be issued by the county to remove the tree, even a dead one.
